OVERLAND PARK, Kansas – Two dozen people who really know their numbers are coming to the metro next week from places as far away as China, the United Kingdom, Sweden, the Netherlands, Poland, Luxembourg, Canada, Brazil, Korea, Syria, Ethiopia and Iraq. They will join with others from the area and across the United States for the first conference of a new center for Performance Auditors.
Who are they and what do they do? Those in the business explain that performance auditing of government services is a widely accepted practice that has been in use for at least four decades.
Through performance auditing, auditors add value to government performance by recommending improvements in the economy, efficiency, and effectiveness of programs The inaugural conference for the International Center for Performance Auditing (ICPA) will be held March 30-31, 2009, at the Baker University facility at 7301 College Boulevard. Kansas City Mayor Mark Funkhouser is helping to host the conference. Mayor Funkhouser is the author of “Honest, Competent Government: The Promise of Performance Auditing”. The Mayor and Dr. Ho-seung Moon, a performance audit professional with the Board of Audit and Inspection of Korea, are the founding fathers of the ICPA. The intent, they say, is to strengthen performance audit organizations across the globe.
Former Comptroller General of US GAO, David Walker, and the Chairman of the Capacity Building Committee of INTOSAI (International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions), head of Supreme Audit Institution (SAI) in Morocco will share special messages with the performance audit community at the conference.
The ICPA has several goals including training, researching, consulting and demonstrating the values of performance auditing.The Center’s primary customers are listed as leaders and staff of government audit organizations as well as elected officials responsible for governance and control of public bodies.
